Whether it’s a spot of gardening, walking to the shops, or stretching at home, how we move will change during our life. Find out how you can live well here.
Being active is good for all of us.
Even small increases in your daily movement can have a big impact on your health and wellbeing. And it’s never too late to start moving more. How and when you move will change throughout our life.
The important thing to remember is that movement will look different for everyone, but its important to remember that every bit of movement matters, no matter how big or small.
One of the best ways to build movement into your life is to replace time you’d usually spend not moving much with small chunks of activity. This might look like:
Taking the stairs over the lift
Parking the car further from your destination to get some steps in
Setting regular reminders to stand, stretch and move around if you work at a desk
Choosing active travel (like walking or cycling) over driving or taking the bus
Doing some squats or lunges during the ad breaks when you’re watching TV
Move more this Spring
Being active with a learning disability
Physical activity and weight loss
Getting active at work
Where we work has a big impact on how much we move. British people sit for an average of 8-9 hours each day, which is too long.
Getting active with a health condition
Every movement counts, no matter how big or small. Every move matters.
Getting active in your community
Many find that being part of groups makes them feel happy, and makes activities more enjoyable.
